What to Look For in Economic Development Help
Monday, February 19, 2024 by Haines City News

Entrepreneurs have changed the world in many different ways. We enjoy longer, healthier lives today than folks did a hundred years ago. Many of the advances that we now enjoy and perhaps at times even take for granted were the result of entrepreneurs and business owners striving to improve society and build successful enterprises. These days, you can now often find an economic development council that supports local business growth. Let's take a look at what you should look for in regard to help with economic development.

What Is the Mission?

If you're thinking about working with an economic development council, it's smart to step back and determine what their mission is. Many councils will work day in and day out to build their communities, spur the development of various technologies, and create jobs. Ultimately, the goal is often to make society a better place. Certainly, if you're looking for assistance or to team up with an organization, it can be enticing if they put doing good as a top priority.

Do They Know Their Stuff?

According to LinkedIn, the three main pillars of economic development are entrepreneurship, business attraction (recruitment), and retention and expansion. You'll want to work with individuals and organizations who understand the basics of economic development and are aware of the needs and challenges entrepreneurs face. If you work with an organization that has a lot of institutional knowledge, they may be in a better place to help you.

What Does the Staff Look Like?

Often, an organization is as good as its staff. A great staff could spur economic development and help communities and entrepreneurs tap into resources. It's smart to look for people with hands-on experience and plenty of education. These folks will often be in the best place to provide support to entrepreneurs and small businesses.

What Is Their Plan for the Future?

It's wise to find organizations and individuals who have ambitious plans for the future. Forward-thinking organizations are often going somewhere, and you may be able to come along for the ride. Further, a strong vision of the future can keep people on task and resources flowing right now.

If you'd like to learn more about how an economic development council works or have questions, feel free to reach out to Haines City Economic Development Council. We always strive to help businesses and entrepreneurs. Together, we can build a brighter future and a better world.
